Alarm Detection Systems Inc. (ADS), of Aurora, Il., has been presented with the 2008 Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Award, announced the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) and the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA). Co-sponsored by Honeywell Security and Security Sales & Integration magazine, the PDQ Award recognizes the security company that best demonstrates a proactive and cooperative effort to reduce unnecessary alarm dispatches.

For the second year in a row, HSM left SSI’s SAMMY (Sales and Marketing) Awards banquet with the most hardware, including the top prize of “Overall Integrated Marketing Program.”
The 12th annual awards ceremony was held at the Venetian Casino Resort conference March 27, the evening before ISC West kicked off.

This year’s 38th edition of the International Security Conference (ISC) West will likely set another record for size and number of attendees. More than 850 exhibitors are expected to put out their latest and best wares from April 5 to 7 for the 21,000-plus attendees expected to converge on the Sands Expo and Convention Center. The conference portion of the event begins April 4.

Getting invited to attend the SAMMY Awards as a finalist was something Digatron Inc. CEO and founder Tony Ibarra couldn’t keep to himself. Along for the ride to attend the April 5 awards ceremony was a group of five from Digatron that included Tony’s brother, Greg, and son, Nick.

And the winner is … Peak Alarm. The Salt Lake City-based alarm company was the only multiple-award winner at the 10th Annual >SAMMY (Sales and Marketing) Awards on April 5, including winning a grand prize for Integrated Marketing Program of the Year. Peak Alarm also received an award for Best Radio/ Television advertisement.

The biggest thrill I get out of my job is being able to contribute something I believe is for the betterment of the electronic security industry. With the continuing growth of the electronic security industry, the ISC West show has been bursting at the seams. Rather than worrying if the walls of the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas can contain it, the organizers of the 37th ISC West have removed one wall entirely.

They say it doesn’t matter where visitors stay in Las Vegas. After all, between the gambling, live shows and endless buffets, tourists don’t spend much time sleeping. And considering the International Security Conference’s (ISC) almost 700 exhibition booths, awards presentations, association meetings, social events and contests, the same could be said for security industry insiders attending the annual conference in Las Vegas from March 30 to April 2.

The effects of 9/11 continue to impact businesses across the country, as security upgrades are being done in buildings large and small. But right after the terrorist attacks, major landmark locations like the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the United States for 30 years, had to be additionally secured as soon as possible.
